How much caffeine is in a standard cup of coffee? Caffeine is a bitter substance found in over 60 plants, including coffee beans, tea leaves, and kola nuts, which are used to flavor soft drink colas, and cacao pods, which are used to make chocolate. However, there is also man-made (synthetic) caffeine which is added to some medicine, food, and drinks.

There are caffeine effects on the body.

  • Caffeine can increase your blood pressure and stimulate your central nervous system which can give you the feeling of alertness and wakefulness.
  • Caffeine is also diuretic; it removes extra water and salt from your body by urinating more.
  • This substance interferes with the intake of calcium in your body.
  • Moreover, caffeine can increase the release of acid in your stomach, which can cause an upset stomach or heartburn.
Within one hour after you consume caffeine, it reaches its peak level in your body and you will feel the effects of caffeine for four to six hours. People usually find caffeine in their daily coffee or tea, but we can also find it in other kinds of drinks such as cola and energy drinks. The safest amount of caffeine for a healthy adult will be 400 mg. That is roughly the equivalent of 10 cans of cola, two "energy shot" drinks, or four cups of brewed coffee. Although consuming caffeine is safe for adults, it is not for adolescents and young adults. They must be aware of excessive caffeine intake that might endanger their health.

There are some people who needs to avoid or limit caffeine.
